HIV TESTING AND COUNSELING:

At Charity Clinic Fort-Portal HIV testing is done by collecting a sample of blood from a vein on your arm or a prick on your finger.
You will usually get your results in about 30 minutes.
Before collecting a sample of blood from you, you will always first be counseled and given information on HIV. On giving you your results, you will always be given more information on your status and HIV as a whole.

Which information will you be given?

• HIV infection and AIDS disease.
• HIV transmission.
• HIV prevention.
• ARVs
• Opportunistic infections
• Positive living
• What next?

Notes:

If you are testing for the first time, we will give you the results for that day’s test, if negative, we will always ask you to test again after every 3 months for two more times.

Why test again, if negative? The first test might have been done while you are still in the window period, which is the time from the moment of infection to the time you test positive for the infection.
Always remember to have your sexual partner tested for HIV. It’s important that two of you go for testing together so that the counselor can help you as a couple. There are many other benefits of going together.
